Guide to Entering Freshman Scholarships
Eligibility Criteria
High school seniors must meet all of the following criteria to be considered for Arkansas Alumni Association scholarships:
- Cumulative high school grade point average of 3.60
- Composite ACT score of 24 or SAT score of 1090 (verbal+math); superscores are accepted; scores from standardized tests taken after December 2011 cannot be accepted
- Successful admission to the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville for the 2012-2013 academic year
NOTE: Students receiving UA scholarships equivalent to $8,000 per year or more will not be considered for Arkansas Alumni Association Scholarships. Out-of-state students who have been awarded Non-Resident Tuition Waivers ARE ELIGIBLE to apply for Alumni Scholarships.
Available Scholarships
Qualified students who submit a complete Arkansas Alumni Association Scholarship Application will automatically be considered for the following awards:
- Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship
- License Plate or “Roads” Scholarship
- Razorback Generations Scholarship
- Alumni Board of Directors Scholarship
- Arkansas Alumni Chapter Scholarships
- Harriett Phillips Scholarship
- Membership Scholarship
Application Procedure
Read all application materials carefully. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

- Download the Arkansas Alumni Association Application for Scholarship
- Complete the application form (page 3)
- Compose a one page personal essay using a minimum 12 point true type font on the following topic: What challenge in life have you overcome and what did you learn from the experience?
- Compose a one page leadership statement using a minimum 12 point true type font using the following prompt: Select one activity in high school and describe how your leadership made a difference for your school or community.
- Using the required resume format, submit a two page resume summarizing your high school accomplishments and involvement.
- Obtain an official 6th semester transcript (through the spring semester of your junior year) along with official transcript for any college courses taken during high school (if not already noted on high school transcript).
- Provide copy of your senior year class schedule along with mid-term grades (if available).
- Obtain two confidential evaluations from the following sources:
- One high school teacher
- One personal reference from outside the classroom (no family members or peers)
- Enclose all of the above materials in an envelope and mail by the scholarship deadline.
Instructions for evaluations: Provide two references with the link to the Evaluation Form. Each reference will fill out a form, place it in a sealed envelope and return it to the student. Evaluation forms must be enclosed in sealed envelopes and included with the application packet.
Important Note: Please choose references who can best attest to your character, work ethic and service. What they say about you is more important than who they are. We want to know who you are.
Deadline
Priority Postmark Deadline: December 1, 2011
Students submitting complete applications by the priority deadline will receive consideration for all Alumni Scholarships.
Final Postmark Deadline: February 1, 2012
Students submitting complete applications postmarked between December 2, 2011 and February 1, 2012 will only be considered for scholarships if funds are available.
Please note: No deadline extensions will be given due to inclement weather.
