Rossetti Named University Professor
|
Rossetti is the director of the Data Science Program, which includes the College of Engineering, the Sam M. Walton College of Business, and Fulbright College. His research is focused on the design, analysis and optimization of transportation, inventory, healthcare and manufacturing systems, using stochastic modeling, computer simulation, information systems and heuristic modeling techniques. He teaches courses in the areas of probability modeling, discrete event simulation, object-oriented and database systems, transportation/logistics modeling, and inventory modeling. Read More

Zhang Announced as John L. Imhoff Endowed Chair 2021-2022
|
Shengfan Zhang, Associate Professor of Industrial Engineering has been announced as the 2021-2022 John L. Imhoff Endowed Chair of Industrial Engineering. The John L. Imhoff Endowed Chair in Industrial Engineering was established in 1989. Imhoff was the founding Department Head of Industrial Engineering at the University of Arkansas and a role model to many. His vision for global cooperation and understanding, excellence in teaching and research, and a commitment to the success of students, are all traits found in the recipients of this named chair. Industrial Engineering Junior Selected As Harry S. Truman Scholarship Finalist
|
Junior Coleman Warren has been selected as a finalist for the 2021 Harry S. Truman Scholarship. His selection puts him among the top students dedicated to a career in public service in the country. He is interested in hunger and food insecurity issues in Arkansas and eventually plans to run for office in the state.

Doctoral Student Earns Third Military Research Fellowship
|
Doctoral candidate and active duty Army officer Nick Shallcross was notified earlier this year he is the recipient of his third General Omar N. Bradley Research Fellowship. He had previously received this fellowship in 2019 and 2020. This research, advised by Greg Parnell, director of the Operations Management Program, has provided significant contributions across several disciplines focusing on the use of information theory, set-based design, and model-based engineering to inform complex system design decisions. Industrial Engineering students completing internships during summer 2020 found themselves working in a new way, remotely. The pandemic has demonstrated how the workforce is experiencing a shift, and the future of work after the COVID-19 pandemic may not be the same. We caught up with several of our students while they were on internship in summer 2020 to find out how they were doing, how they managed to stay engaged, and how it impacted their understanding of the new work model. First National Science Foundation Research Experience for Teachers Site in Arkansas

A team of researchers at the U of A has been awarded a $600,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to establish the first ever Research Experience for Teachers site in Arkansas. The Arkansas Data Analytics Teacher Alliance program, known as AR-DATA, will provide thirty 9th-12th grade mathematics, computer science and pre-engineering teachers with transformative research experiences that are thematically centered on data analytics with engineering applications aimed at smart and connected health, infrastructure and community.

Arkansas high school students will have the opportunity to pursue courses in data science through a revised curriculum approved by the Arkansas Department of Education. The effort was led by Karl Schubert, professor of practice and associate director of the University of Arkansas' new Undergraduate Data Science Program.
