IISE Honors Sandra Eksioglu with Fellow Status

Sandra Eksioglu, Hefley Professor in Logistics and Entrepreneurship was awarded the title of Fellow of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers. This honor recognizes outstanding leaders of the profession who have made significant, nationally recognized contributions to industrial and systems engineering. A fellow is the highest classification of IISE membership.

Faculty Member Honored As Distinguished Alumni

Richard Cassady, University Professor of industrial engineering and director of the First-Year Engineering Program at the U of A, was recently inducted to the Academy of Distinguished Alumni for the Grado Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech.

 

Cassady has served on the industrial engineering faculty since 2000. He received his Bachelor of Science summa cum laude in 1992 and his doctoral degree in 1996, both from the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech.

Gold Awards from the Office of Nationally
Competitive Awards

Each spring, the Office of the Provost and the Office of Nationally Competitive Awards recognize state and national award recipients and their mentors at an annual reception. Associate professor, Ashlea Milburn was a faculty Gold Medal Winner for 2022 and the Department of Industrial Engineering received the Departmental Gold Medal for 2022!

Our faculty members have supported and mentored a record number of fellowship, scholarship and award-winning students!

Eric Specking

Specking recognized by Honors College for Outstanding Student Support

Under Eric Specking's leadership in recruitment, the College of Engineering continues to enroll a stellar cohort of new honors students each year. He has also played an important role in the prestigious fellowship selection process, serving as both an application reviewer and an interviewer for many years now. "We sincerely appreciate Eric for the energy and passion he brings to his job, especially when it comes to recruiting outstanding engineering honors students to the university," said Noah Pittman.

Specking serves the College of Engineering as assistant dean of enrollment and retention and an instructor in the Industrial Engineering Department.

The College of Engineering held the Annual Faculty and Staff Meeting on Friday, May 6th. All departments of the College were on hand to acknowledge faculty and staff with awards of excellence. In the Department of Industrial Engineering, Kelly Sullivan was recognized with the 2021-2022 Award for Outstanding Service to Students, Haitao Liao as Outstanding Researcher 2021-2022 and Ashley Reeves received the Staff Excellence Award for 2021-2022. College of Engineering Leads Preparation of Future
Advanced Air Mobility Leaders

The U of A is offering a new graduate micro-certificate in Advanced Air Mobility Autonomous Operations to prepare leaders for the evolution of transportation and supply chain systems.

This new offering prepares adult learners who have little or no background in aviation to obtain their Federal Aviation Administration Remote Pilot Certificate, obtain complex FAA waivers and program unmanned aircraft systems (drones) to perform complex tasks such as building 3D models, doing thermal inspections, performing aerial surveying, measuring volume or distance remotely and tracking construction projects over time.

 

Both NASA and the FAA point to emerging needs...

 

2022 UP.Summit Community Day

The M.S. in Operations Management program was invited to collaborate with the U of A's Division of Economic Development, Division for Research and Innovation and College of Engineering for the 2022 UP.Summit Community Day held June 5 at Thaden Fieldhouse in Bentonville, Arkansas. The all-day event was geared toward the future of transportation and advanced air mobility while showcasing the latest technologies and flight demonstrations.

This was an opportunity to introduce to the community one of the newest programs on campus, the Advanced Air Mobility Autonomous Operations MicroCertificate.

The Arkansas Alumni Association announced the 2022 Seniors Awards on May 11. Selected based on their academic achievements, leadership skills and extracurricular campus and/or community activities, the Seniors of Significance are the only students on campus who are eligible for the next two tiers of the Alumni Association’s Senior Awards program: The Razorback Classics and Senior Honor Citation.

Industrial Engineering Students Recognized
With Department Awards

The Department of Industrial Engineering recognizes students each spring at the Annual Industrial Engineering Student Awards Banquet. This year, the event returned to the pre-pandemic format with faculty, students, staff and alumni meeting together at the Fayetteville Town Center on April 27.

The department handed out its most prestigious awards, and the Arkansas Academy of Industrial Engineering awarded more than $224,500 in scholarships to 62 deserving students.
