Chancellor Emeritus John White Publishes Book on Leadership

In Why it Matters: Reflections on Practical Leadership, White draws on his wealth of expertise acquired across a six-decade career as a corporate leader, chancellor, dean, educator, engineer, and consultant to create a thorough and thought-provoking treatise on leadership. Based in part on Leadership Practices and Principles, the course he designed and taught, Why It Matters weaves White’s inspiring personal story and observations on leadership with a treasure trove of leadership philosophy from some of the nation’s most respected corporate, military, political and nonprofit leaders.

Introducing Our Newest Faculty Members

photo of Alan Vazquez

Alan Vazquez

Alan Vazquez joined us as an Assistant Professor in August 2022. He received his PhD in Applied Economics from the University of Antwerp, Belgium. Before joining the University of Arkansas, he was an Assistant Adjunct Professor at the Department of Statistics at the University of California, Los Angeles. He was also a Postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Biosystems at the KU Leuven, Belgium.

Alan’s research area is the interface between the fields of statistical design of experiments and operations research. His research is featured in high-impact journals such as Technometrics, Journal of Quality Technology and European Journal of Operational Research.

Brandon Crisel joined the department as an instructor in July 2022. He comes to us from the First-Year Engineering program in the College of Engineering, so he will be a familiar face to many of our students.

Brandon received his master’s degree in industrial engineering from the University of Arkansas, a master’s degree in mathematics with emphasis in statistics from Arkansas State University and a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Arkansas State University. His engineering research was in systems reliability, but his continued research has been in improving educational methods and practices, particularly in the STEM fields.
