This Faculty Distinguished Achievement Award recognizes, rewards, and encourages the faculty members who are basically teachers but whose research efforts are particularly successful and outstanding.
Shui-Qing "Fisher" Yu, professor of electrical engineering, is being honored for his achievement in research. He joined the faculty at the College of Engineering in 2008. Yu is one of the most productive faculty members in the college. His research in electronic and photonics material has produced seminal contributions in semiconductor optoelectronics.

His research productivity resulted in a Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative Award (MURI), totaling $7.5 million over five years, 2019-2024. This prestigious award from the U.S. Department of Defense is highly competitive and the first MURI received at the university.
Yu is committed to the university's students as well. He has supervised 11 postdoctoral research associates, 23 Ph.D. students, 16 M.S. student and 17 undergraduate researchers. He has graduated seven doctoral students and four master's degree students since 2018.
