Black Alumni Scholarships
Scholarships offered through the Black Alumni Society (BAS) of the Arkansas Alumni Association recognize students who contribute to the diverse educational environment of the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, campus. Scholarship availability depends on several factors and can vary from year to year.

Most Black Alumni Scholarships are one-year awards and students are encouraged to apply each year.


Entering freshmen Black Alumni Society scholarships include:

Black Alumni Society Endowed Scholarship
  • A four-year renewable scholarship funded with contributions from the University of Arkansas Black Alumni and friends.

  • Black Alumni Challenge Scholarship
  • A one-year scholarship for students who contribute to the diverse educational environment at the UofA.

    Breeding Razorbacks: Empowering Tomorrow's Leaders Scholarship
  • Established by Kabrina Amey and LaKendra Spates. Recipients must be incoming freshmen who graduated from Central High School in Helena-West Helena, AR and who contribute to the diversity of the University of Arkansas campus.

  • Charles William Diggs, Sr. and Mary Helen Diggs Memorial Endowed Award
  • A one-year scholarship available to students who have completed at least 60 credit hours with a 3.2 or higher cumulative grade point average. Recipients must be biology, chemistry, math or physics majors who are MAT students.

  • Reggie Murdock, Jr. Memorial Scholarship
  • Established by Reggie and Willie Mae Murdock in recognition of their son Reggie Murdock, Jr. This one-year scholarship is awarded to an entering freshman from Lee County in Arkansas.

  • Black Alumni Society scholarships for current UofA students may give preference to previous BAS scholarship recipients and include:

    Banks Engineering Scholarship
  • A one-year scholarship available to engineering majors.

  • Blakely Sophomore Scholarship
  • A one-year scholarship available to currently enrolled full-time students who have accrued between 30-59 credit hours with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5, have demonstrated financial need as determined by FAFSA information and contribute to the diverse educational environment at the U of A.

  • Sammie Perry and Ernestine Jones Perseverance Scholarship
  • A one-year scholarship available to upperclassmen with a minimum 2.50 cumulative GPA who are from Jefferson, Phillips, or Ouachita counties in Arkansas.

  • St. James Missionary Baptist Church Non-Traditional Student Scholarship (also available to entering freshmen)
  • A one-year scholarship available to non-traditional students who contribute to a diverse educational environment and have financial need as determined by FAFSA. Preference is given single parents and non-traditional freshmen.

  • T.A. & Vivian, Chris & Jazmin Walton BAS Endowed Scholarship
  • A one-year, need-based scholarship awarded to an entering freshman whose parent or grandparent attended the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.

  • Victor A. and Monica E. Wilson Black Alumni Society Scholarship, Arkansas Alumni Association
  • A one-year scholarship available to junior or senior students enrolled in the Sam M. Walton College of Business or majoring in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). Preference maybe given to first generation students or those from an underrepresented student population.
